October on Galiano

A complex soccer field designed and built by primary students during "Outputs" - which is first period after the whole school warms up their bodies and brains with a jogging or running circuit around the gym (every morning!). What a great way to start the day!

Apple Fest on Galiano is a collaboration between the school and community (organized by the Galiano Food Program) that celebrates the apple harvest. Students got to participate in a number of learning activities involving apples including using an apple press (super yummy juice!), creating an "apple" battery, and - pictured below - splatter painting involving toothbrushes!

Students complete a circuit in the gym that incorporates reflex integration - an idea that a number of teachers in our district are exploring and working into to their daily routines. It's called "Foundations for Learning". For more information about this program send me an email.

Music Presentation on Mayne

The Mayne Island students were treated to a music performance by Michelle Footz, former Mayne Island student and SIMS music teacher, who was kicking off her cross-country (also International!) music tour. Check out her blog: electricclamfish.blogspot.ca.

Michelle played a number of accordion tunes and a super catchy ukulele tune, then let students try out her instruments!
